Creativity & Genre

     The process of creativity when embarking upon a new endeavor in a field ripe with choices is super important because applying creativity into something makes you a better leader and allows you to become well-rounded so that in the end, you are more successful. The creative process involves critical thinking and problem-solving skills according to the Ted Talk by Duncan Wardle. This creative process provides you with confidence and the most creative people tend to be able to find ways around obstacles because they have such an open and creative mind that when this happens, you see the negative roadblocks ad new opportunities.  

Having a creative mindset allows you to see problems and certain situations from a fresh perspective. The “New Introductions” activity allowed me and everyone in my class to pick a perspective and describe ourselves from it. For me, I picked the movie perspective because this gave me a wide variety of choices to explain how I feel like lighting, characterization and setting. After learning about the creative process, this activity really allowed me to see that if you use the creative side of your brain, you can think of so many ways around any good or bad obstacle. Creativity promotes thinking and problem-solving skills which enable you to be able to take on any situation full of choices.  

The Ted Talk by Duncan Wardle talked about the creative process and the mind. This was very interesting to see the different processes and how you can use them to make your mind think more creatively. For example, he states explains playfulness, mindfulness, storytelling and bravery and how people perceive these ways to incorporate creativity into your life. These are also characterizations that help make what genre you are working on related and impactful. You need to have playfulness to open your mind to be able to see a topic from different perspectives. Mindfulness allows you to open doors to creativity so that you can think of several different ways into an opportunity. Storytelling allows for fantasy that creates a creative story and bravery allows for prime creativity. All these aspects are incorporated into the importance of the creative process and how it allows you to choose what you desire.  

It is important to use this creative process when coming into new situations because of another factor like risk taking and confidence. The article “An Interview with Ron Beghetto: Subtle Nuances of Creativity in Learning and Life" talks a lot about the effect of this process and how it gives a better meaning to creative work. The article states, “Creative self-efficacy is a specific type of creative self-confidence that helps shape more global beliefs about our creative abilities and identity. Creative self-efficacy typically refers to our confidence to perform creatively on a particular task in a particular situation and is influenced by a host of other factors, including our physiological and psychological state, the social situation, and the task at hand.” Having a creative confidence is key in using this skill for it to be successful.  

I am going to be working with Collin, Aidan and Tanner. We chose to pick specific genre with a sports medium because we felt this would be the most interesting with many different separate subjects for each of us to work with. Collin and Aidan have similar creativity levels so I feel like they will be great at working together to create something cool. They will have good ideas to put in and can think of fun ways to organize the magazine. I think this will be helpful in making a good project. I think Tanner will be able to incorporate some interesting aspects so that our project can be the best that it can. He is good at detail and putting a lot of effort into editing and organizing as well. I am excited to do this project because this topic has so many different things to work with and it will be interesting and fun to see what we end up coming up with.
