What is your concept? (Be thorough & specific. Review the links on Blackboard)

Our concept will be to allow our readers to immerse themselves in a world of sports and make personal connections to athletes and teams alike. Our concept will be a sports magazine focusing on one sport a month. Inside the magazine there will be facts and news for that sport that interest all ages and what's going on with that sport all around the world. For example, one month may be baseball and that magazine would include information on hot topics of baseball around the world and from here, interesting all ages.

How did you conceive the idea for this concept?

We conceived this idea because we can all relate.  All our group members play or have played a sport. We can all connect through this topic and it is something all of us are passionate about. We felt that adding news from the sport from around the world would make our magazine different from the rest and attract readers of all ages and readers from all around the world.

What do you believe is unique about your concept?

Our concept is unique because it allows the reader to have a close and interactive experiences as similar as the real thing. Our magazine will be entertaining, educational and interactive all at the same time.

Why do you believe this product will be of interest to your audience?

Sports in general is exciting, venue for emotional expression, an escape real-world troubles, connection to what's going on in sports, entertaining, and competitiveAll of these aspects make this magazine a relatable an exciting outlet for people of all ages and from all places who enjoy sports.

  • I was not here for the feedback; this is what they told me we should work on and I wrote my concept as what I thought would make mine a little bit different from theirs so that we didn’t all have the exact magazine but it was along similar lines*

  • Not creative

  • Needed more uniqueness

  • Change to women's sport magazine

  • Add women aspects

I decided to do a magazine for my portfolio and to work with a team. Our original idea was a sports magazine that allows for an audience of all ages and people from all over the world. The original plan was a different sport once a month with aspects of that sport from different countries and aspect for younger kids, teens and adults so that it is entertaining for everyone. Some feedback we received from our pitch was to make it more of a women's sports magazine and to make it relatable to today. Hearing the feedback opened a whole different vision for our concept. If we make it a women's magazine like recommended, our audience would be smaller, but it would make our magazine more uniqueness and the has a bigger impact than the target audience.

We chose the original concept with the help of OBP magazine trends. We figured sports would be a great topic since it is very common, likeable by a wide variety of people, and entertaining. The article states, “Making it relevant and selling its relevance” is important so we took this into consideration which led us to think sports! There is always something interesting going on in sports and making it worldwide once a month would make it very relevant. Changing it to women's sports will also make it more interesting and unique. The article also uses the phrase “Finding golden needles in the haystack” to explain that the best-selling magazines include analyzing big data sets. The sports industry is huge already and only continuing to grow. Finding sports facts that no one knows about women and making it relevant and exciting will make our magazine like finding a golden needle in a haystack. Another article called Wood Wing justifies how we made our decision for our magazine and concept. The author here explains how coming up with new ideas instead of the everyday social media news is becoming a bigger revenue over the traditional. This piece of information sparked the ideas in my head to incorporate different aspects of women's sports news into the magazine. Magazines are trending, many people read them and ours specifically incorporates numerous ideas that will attract people to read our magazine. The article “The Abundance, Joy, Beauty, Persistence, Power, and Potential of Independent Publishing: A CONVERSATION WITH SIX BLACK EDITORS” somewhat support my concept for a few reasons. The article points out several different editors and their attributions to their articles and how they are unique. For example, they point out how their cultural contributions make their magazines unique and different from any other. This supports my concept because it is going to be unique and something different that someone wouldn’t be likely to find in many places.
